john deere gator does not shut off

i have a 4x2 john deere gator that will not shut off when the key is turned off. you can remove the switch from the harness and it still runs anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Sounds like an electrical short bypassing the switch. Trace from the ignition module back.

Basic concept on the small engine ignition systems is to ground the ignition coil's primary winding when key is turned to off position. No surprise then that unplugged it still runs. Find a wiring diagram to locate the coil wire by color scheme and short the coil wire to ground at the switch harness plug, if it dies you need a new switch. Otherwise find out why that wire is not connected to the coil anymore.
