2840 fuel gauge

How can I test a fuel gauge? I have 12 volts going to sender, roughly 1/4 to 1/3 tank of fuel and the sender reads 48 ohms to ground. Tech manual says 0 ohms empty and 180 ohms full. Manual says to use a gauge tester or a known good sending unit to test gauge. I have neither. It is no big deal but it would be nice for the gauge to work.

Take the wire off the sender. With the key on, touch the wire to ground. It should peg the needle. If it does, the sender is bad. If it doesn"t, replace the gauge.

I unplugged the wire and touched it several different places to ground and nothing happened. I think I will order a gauge.

You won't waste any money by changing both, after several years of bobbing around the sender gets worn out...
