Lube for fan shaft bearing

Does anyone know the correct type/weight lube to use in the front fan shaft bearing housing for a '41 model H ? Thanks

If it is similar to the JD "B", put a Zerk fitting in and use you grease gun..
Probably the most forgotten bearing on a JD other than the Clutch bearing and Brake fittings..

Seems like an awful big chamber for grease. How will I know when there's enough grease in it...

Well, stop when you first see grease..otherwise, just give it 6 or 8 pumps and be Happy..!
Once will do for years of use..

Mine had a pipe plug in it. I took it out and replaced it with a
zerk fitting .works fine.

I am currently resurrecting a 44 John Deere A.
Fan shaft bearings & govern gears rebuild.
Upon removing the fans shaft from the
housing the whole tube was nearly backed full
of grease. I pushed a bung threw the tube
which nearly filled a 3 pound coffee can..
So I will say, all the grease in the world
won't fix a bearing that is already gone. LOL

I hear ya about the bearing. Mine are ALL new. Been getting a 'howl' @ the governor/fan shaft connection. Thought it was the gears so bought new ones but no matter how I shim them still getting the howl. Read on here a few weeks ago someone with the same problem on a 'B'. Someone replied it could actually be the front fan shaft bearing with the noise echoing through the tube which I guess could be a legit possibility. Gonns try more grease in the front but would actually would like to try oil just to make sure it's gettting lubed. Thanks everyone for the replies...
