Tires on John Deere

I am trying to get about 2 or 3 more mph on my JD 50. I was
told bigger tires would speed up the tractor. Is this true if so
how big do you go? Right now I have 11.2 x 38.

Thanks,
Mandy

Myself, I like 13.6x38" on my '52 JD "B"..

12.4x38" was the original "over-size" tire for them. They were rated 10 MPH with 10x38".
The 50 is nearly the same tractor.
Don't try to run too fast, the steering gets touchy above 12 MPH..
I just pulled an IH 350 and equipment out of a neighbor's barn lot, had weather-checked 13.6x38" loaded rears and New tread..tractor sold for $300.oo

I had 10" rims and 12,4x38" tires and trades for a set of JD "A" (11" rims) with 13.6x38" Firestone tires.
Much improved traction with the loader now..
Way less wheel marks in soft ground, too.

People seem to be led to the 11.2 tires by mistake.. I have even seen them on Farmall "H" tractors and they are entirely too small for the Farmall "H" and the Late Styled JD "B".
12.4x38" should be the minimum size on either tractor..

Your 11.2X38's have a 27.0 static loaded radius, meaning from the ground to axle center is 27 inches. Your tractor should run ten MPH. If you want to go 123 MPH you need a 20+ taller tire, 32.4 inches. that would be between an 18.4X38 and a 20.8X38. For a 13 mph road speed yod need a 35.1 inch loaded radius, which is 2-1/4 inches larger than a 20.8X38.

You may get what you want with a 20.8X42 or maybe an 18.4X46 rear tire. I don't have any tire books new enough to show specs on that size tires.

You can search on Firestone Ag tires, or Good Year Ag tires and find that info, remember 35.1 inch static loaded radius. Or just adjust the governor so your engine runs 1650 RPM.... and put scatter shields around the flywheel and block.
