it was sold new in North America txjim, don't panic

But not in the US. Only Mannheim tractors available in the US were 820/830 until Deere shifted Dubuque tractors to Germany one series at a time.
No 1120, 2120 etc. ever sold new in US.
I remember hearing of a 3120 in Canada bank in the day but no one knew what it was. Some speculated it was a 3020 w/six cyl. Boy were they wrong!

b&d
You forget I stated USA not Canada. I agree with D-. 2040, 2240 & 2840 were the Mannheim built JD tractor models sold "NEW" in USA after the 820/830 with 3 cyl engines.

jim, jim, jim. For some time you have been using the term "USA" and "North America" interchangeably.

There were two distinctly different 2040's back in the day.One was a Dubuque 3 cylinder, the other a Mannheim 4 cylinder turbo.

Are you quite sure there was a 3 cyl 2040 built in Dubuque? I was thinking ALL 2040's were built in Mannheim. The 1st 3 cyl 2040's had open center hyd's. Would you care to guess where those hyd's originated????? I'll save you scratching your head as it was Mannheim.

You need to get your "chickens gathered back up" because you're the one that I had to explain to where N America boundaries were!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't forget YT has archives!!!!!!!

(quoted from post at 20:24:04 09/06/14) What 2040 had a turbo? Never saw or heard of one in USA.

How is it that you fellows have no clue about that whole big and interesting world beyond the US border? You didn't even bother to look on the JD web site's parts book. Or even look at tractor data.com ?

Thanks for confirming what I've been trying to explain to you for several years. I didn't need to look up on JD website or Tractordata. to prove the differences between the 2040 3 cyl & 2040 4 cyl . You can post all those spec's you chose as your normally do for YOUR SMOKE SCREEN. In all your research did you find with proof that any NEW 2040's were sold in USA with any engine other than a 3 cyl????? I'll bet not!!!

Doesn't your wife have some "honey do's" for you to get done??
Good day,Jim

I had a later model 2040, German made. Had little over 4000 hrs. My issue was when bushogging the tractor wanted to heat. Spoke to the best local tech and he seemed to thing the center pump on tractor. Cleaned everything, radiator, screens, had the pump worked on. I think there may be a cooling weakness on these type tractors. Especially since the reservoir sets ahead of tractor....fluid gets really hot there and air has to circulate through the side screens. Had no performance on power as I think the 3 cylinder is better balanced than a 4.

Quote from your specs: "The European-market John Deere 2040 was unrelated to the earlier North American 2040, being closer to the American 50-series tractors."
I think that means no 4 cylinder 2040 sold in North America. The North American 2040 was also made in Mannheim.
Dubuque production was phased out and to Germany with the 30 series.

You are right about 3 cyl. That's why they were developed. Three and six cylinder are naturally balanced.

Machinery-Man
If your tractors SN was >266750 then Hot hyd fluid on a closed center hyd system indicates an internal high pressure leak or plugged hyd oil cooler. You stated best local tech mentioned center pump BUT I think that is not a source for heating hyd oil.

Thanks D- for pointing that out. I overlooked that while scanning b&d's attempt to cover up his PANIC.

I suppose post on hydraulic fluid blockage and the like may have been a factor. It"s just trying to trouble shoot all the problems...I swapped off for a 990 and am more than happy with this compact.

RRF
Have you noticed the "new thread count" on YT is down lately?????. This thread is not a spat but an attempt to clarify which model JD utility tractors were sold "NEW in USA" vs sold "NEW in Canada"!!! It's a learning experience. No one has called anyone bad names so we're doing GOOD. Besides if it's anyone fault it's b&d's as he started this thread so make him stand in the corner.

Good day,Jim[/quote]

Who is always talking about USA and never thinks beyond the border into other North American Counties ?
Canada had the turbo 2040 four cylinder. Located in North America the last time I checked.

Don't get too worried. There are few things that txjim and myself like better than giving each other a jab.
