Shes coming apart piece by piece. Motor was stuck from sitting outside for years. Crank looks good and rod bearings are barely worn. Still had standard bore, but the number one cylinder is cracked in the middle of the cylinder. Looking for a good set of pressed steel wheels and a good set of front rims also. Suprisingly the transmission looks really clean. The bearing in the first reduction gear cover was shot and the whole shaft wobbles. However the bearing in the maincase for the same shaft is in good shape. Does the first reducion gear get alot of stability from the bearing in the reduction cover?

I think those bearings are starved for lubrication.I've had to replace them in a couple tractors.I've thought a good idea would be to drill and tap the cover and install a grease fitting.Of course now I've probably alerted the correct police.Ron

Yes they are starved for lube and they also get water in that case you can't remove.
Later model A's and B's had drain and oil fill plugs installed in the reduction cover so at every oil change you could drain and refill it with fresh oil. I do drill and tap any I have off for the drain and a fill plug. Glad I did on my unstyled B as when the push rod tubes leaked antifreeze into the engine oil I could get it drain out and flushed without removing the reduction cover !
