70 standard gears

I have a 70 Standard that didn't get put into 5/6 gear for a long time and now it won't go into that quadrant. I assume part of the shifting mechanism is froze up. Any way to access this without removing the quadrant housing? On a standard that's a lot of tear down. Everything works fine.

A 70 Series tractor would be very late for steel wheels. However, it was a common practice for John Deere to lock out (block) the 5th and 6th gears for steel wheel tractors.

It use to go into 5/6. Is there there an external lock out that I may have activated somehow? May just be a froze up detent ball in the shifting fork (if one is used ?)

The fifth and sixth speed shift rod controls the gears behind the sheet metal cover at the back of the flywheel. The slide rod could be stuck in the transmission case sidewall. The flywheel will have to be removed to access the cover.
