LED lights on a 4430

Hey all,

Was at my local dealer and saw they now have LED lights that are a direct replacement for the stock lights. They're a pretty penny ($120), but I picked up two floods for the back and two trapezoidals for the front. They sure are a lot brighter and draw only 2 amps.

I see A&I also has replacements, but for $95, as does ASAP, but for $70. What are the odds these are exactly the same, but without a leaping Deere on the box???

Also, without the third lead off the back of the light, I've lost the use of my dimmer switch. I don't use the tractor on the road much at all, and even less so at night, so it isn't a big deal. It might be fore others.

My guess is they are from the same suppler,, and as for dimming the lights,, how often does that really happen or make any difference...The mark up at Deere has been out of control, I have noticed some things have taken another jump in price, while parts service continues to decline...I have just hooked up with a Air Conditioning supply company, AP AIR, I am going to be getting my lines and stuff from them now, near half price and the same parts. Our Mega dealers have shown us how they care for us...By saying here it is take it or leave it.....

I do not know if reduced voltage would reduce the brightness or just not work. If a reduced voltage did work, you could use the third wire to pull in a relay that hooks a resistor inline to reduce the voltage for dim. The normally closed contact on the relay would be straight through.

Those lights sound awesome, but a little pricey from mother
deere. We have two different dealers within 30 minutes and it
seems the prices are always changing. One day one is
cheaper on filters next week it's the opposite. They both got
bought out by mega stores. Sorry bigger is not always better

I am pretty sure the A&I lights are the same light. As are most things from them just in different box. Starter Bendix drive for JD A is $124.00 from Deere. Same one different box from A&I is $26.00. Always ask for them to look up your part from A&I to see if its available . Chances are it will save you a bundle.

You can check the availability and price at the Deere parts site, just put A- in front of the part number, if it comes up not available go to the parts remark column and try the A- in front of one of the older part numbers listed.

It would dim the lights if either current or voltage were reduced. The better way to achieve this would be to put both lights in series in the dim position and then both lights in parallel for the full effect - no pricey power resistor needed. But you do need a specialized switch that can be wired to do this with. Same system/switch type is used to get low and high speed out of two A/C blower motors, just to point the thinkers in the right direction.

At some point with lower voltage they will quit and this depends on how many LED units are wired in series internally, each one will take .7 volt to run well, but 50% voltage should be enough to produce some good light still, one could always try them on 6 volt first to see if the series/parallel switch idea is worth bothering with.

I'm probably not gonna bother with making the dimmer switch work. As I said, it's unlikely to be an issue as seldom as I'm on the road after dark.

Frankly, I'd pry just wire up the RH side to work on dim or bright and let the LH side go dark on dim. Might confuse some drivers, but at least it wouldn't blind them, AND it'd give me enough light to stay on the road 'til they pass.
