jd 50 oil pump gears

50 JD had great oil pressure, but had a small leak from the oil pump bottom cover...removed cover to replace gasket; put bottom cover back on and now have no oil pressure. The only thing removed while the cover was off was the idler gear. Does that gear have to be installed in a particular position relative to the drive gear? If not, what else may have happened?

Gasket too thick or covering up something? Did the drive gear drop down and the coupler fell off? I would check if shaft turns. Ron Mn

what has to be done to make sure the drive gear is in the coupling?

Usually the crankcase cover is removed so you can see or feel when it is connected. Or you can twist the gear from below to feel when it is engaged. Ron Mn.
