150-175 hp tractor

I am looking to upgrade from my 4640 QR to something newer with a powershift (4650,4755,4760,8100 etc) to pull my big square baler. I have a 4760 PS now that I plant with and would like to keep on the planter and not move back and forth from the planter to the baler. We do a lot of custom work and going to need something reliable. Will the PS be up for the strain the baler will put on the PTO? I have no complaints on the 4640 just would like something a little nicer and would be nice to be able to have more than one shift on the fly. I am partial to soundgard tractors but would consider a newer one just for the cab room. I"m 6"6" tall and 8 hours days baling in a soundgard will start to wear on you. Any input is appreciated

I Assume your talking a 4x4 big square baler, likely a Hesston 4900 or 4910. I have a 4900 and 4910, and pull them both with a 4960 and 4955 power shifts. They work great, with plenty of extra power. I occasionally pull one with my 7830 with an IVT trans that dynos at 190 hp stock, the IVT is a great trans for baling when you are particular about your flake count.

Neighbors have used 4450's on their 4900's, but I know one of those tractors dynoed 160 hp. There is a local custom operator that is running 8100's on his 3 agco 7444's.

If you ever plan on stepping up to a Krone 4x4 you will want a minimum of 200 hp.

As far as power shift tractor pto's handling the balers, I haven't had issues and haven't heard of any, as with anything make sure the driveline slip clutch is operating properly so as to insolate the plunger load shock from the tractor.
