4020 Rockshaft Squeal

I've got a 4020 that when the 3pt comes all the way up, the rockshaft begins to make a high-pitch sqealing noise. Other than that it functions normally. At first, I thought perhaps the lever was out of adjustment and going to far up, but until you move it down to where the hitch begins to lower, that's the point where the squeal stops. Any ideas?

Going through the hitch adjustment will probably take care of it,,sounds like the pressure valve is being held open too long, there is a screw that you get to through a plug on the side of the valve that will give you more free play in the linkage..And D is right about the thermal valve it is probably making the noise but the linkage is causing it..

Isn't thermal relief valve setting higher than hydraulic pressure?
If thermal relief valve is squealing it should be repaired.

Maybe not,, just sounds the same ,,D- is correct it should be set above system pressure, but they do get weak, and not much of a way to isolate them, I normally shim them a bit tighter when I'm in there, just because,,,I never thought they were needed in our area, they were put there to control thermal expansion of oil...

There's a special tool to check the thermal relief valves. It's just a holding fixture with a gauge and you hook it to a porta-power. The valve not only protects from thermal expansion, it also protects the rockshaft from a pressure spike in the cylinder from shock load on the 3-point. Anytime you have the rockshaft valve off, it's a good idea to check the thermal relief valve.

And a check of standby pressure might be in order. If it's somewhere around 2400 psi or above the relief valve will constantly bypass and heat the oil.

Yes I guess I didn't think about a kid going across a rough field too fast with a round bale on the hitch...that kinda bounce could give a strong spike pressure..

I have a 4010 which would get "warm" hydraulic oil after 5-10 minutes of idling. I checked the standby pressure and it was about 2650 psi. I turned it down to 2300 psi and it cured the problem.
