3020 Countershaft Removal

Does anyone have any hints or ideas on how to remove the countershaft w/o removing the input shaft? Bearing went out on 3020. IT book says you have to get the input/pinion shaft out. As I am sure you all know, that involves removing the axles, differential, etc.

Top/input shaft has to come out, not enough room otherwise. Guy down the road says he ground the trans case on a 4010 once and was able to wiggle the counter shaft out and back in without pulling the pinion. Not sure if I would try that.

If your talking about the transmission counter shaft, upper left part of transmission,it is the last shaft to come out of the case,, first one back in,, there is no short cut.

I wouldn't grind it,, one of the main things that stop it from coming out is it comes against the lower gear and won't tip enough to get over it,,go on down and inspect your bearings and shift collars, it will be worth your time to do it right...I have a 4010 here that I'm getting ready to do,, I'll post some pictures of the "how to" so you can see,, it's a big job,, and even bigger when it's your first time...
