new tractor ?

Looking at a new john deere 5055d with 553 loader. I need a good utility tractor but would like one big enough to cut rake and bale hay with. I"m not doing a bunch of hay 6 to 12 acres . Does any one know anything about 5055d. Dealer wants 24,750 if I get the 5055 e it goes to 31000 only difference I see is its 4wd. What do you guys suggest?

I do a lot of clutch work on the 5000's and I don't really like the way the controls are located,,,I think the 6000's are much better but a bit more money... go set in both of them,, and drive them a bit before you make up your mind,,you will see what I mean...

Maybe wrong dealer; the Manufactor's listed retail price on a 5065E is $20,400; 4wheel drive about 24,400. Careful with the D's, they have a shorter wheelbase than the E's; and the E's are short. I have a 5065E that is too short, too light and too noisy. Otherwise a nice little tractor.

I'll second what Tim S said. When I worked at Deere I got to the point I could almost put a clutch in a 5000 series blindfolded and one hand tied behind my back. I'm not a fan of them. If I was in your shoes I'd rather spend the same money and get a used 6000. Yes it will not have a warranty on it but its better than a 5. Just my two cents.
