60 block removal

Thinking about overhauling my 60,
will the block come out with the fan
shaft intact or will it need to be
removed also?

Why not have a look at the governor gears, bearing and weights etc at this opportunistic time ?
Why an overhaul ?
Have you considered the cam and followers during this overhaul ?

The block will come out with the fan shaft in place. IIRC, you'll need to remove the top row of head studs to be able to remove the head with the manifolds still on. I do agree with B&D, time and funds permitting, to pull the governer off for a complete inspection, and put in a reground cam and lifters. Also check clearance on the crank main bearings. I replaced the main bearings a couple of years ago on mine, and they were shot. Poor oil pressure at idle, and pushing oil thru the clutch side seals. The fanshaft drive gear set was worn enough to jump a tooth every now and again. Good luck. Mike

Actually nothing wrong with the
tractor, it runs like a top but I
have a 60 for parts that has been
rebored and oversized pistons, head
and block planned, with hardly any
hours on it,just thought I would
take advantage of the parts before I
get rid of it

Be VERY careful torqueing that head back on. Those 60 blocks can crack very easy. There is a step sequence to follow and do it exactly. Over torqueing will crack the block inside the cylinder at the stud location and you cannot sleeve it.

My block was cracked when i got it.Took the block out and to the machine shop. They bored an sleeved it back to std.It has been trouble free for 12 yrs. Can't really remember having to remove the fan shaft.
