720 diesel crank endplay

I'm putting a taperloc flywheel on my 720. Right now I'm working on setting the endplay. I have an early 720 that you remove shims to set endplay but I can't seem to remove enough shims to get it within tolerances. I assume this means something is wore, but what is it? I installed new thrust washers. (I read the archives here and saw the tip about making a pipe spacer to act as the flywheel for setting endplay, which has saved a lot of effort). Any ideas on where to look next?

Fooled with it some more this afternoon. Anyone know how thick the thrust plate is supposed to be? It seems to be the only thing that can be wore to make a difference. It looks ok but I"ll replace it if it needs it. Just hate to spend over $200 for it and find out it"s no thicker than the one in the tractor now.
