2040 runs hot

I posted awhile back about this problem, and I have since changed all the parts in the cooling system except the gauge and the radiator. I don't think any of the parts I replaced were causing any problems. I looked in the archives and found a post by jdemaris about a 2040 hydraulic problem that could cause the 3-cylinder engine to run hot. He said the leaking valves could be replaced from the outside. Where would I need to look to check for this hydraulic leak? The post was from 2013.

was the water pump pulley replaced?
Does the rad boil over?
How accurate is the gauge and sender?

The gauge may not be accurate, that"s a possibility. A few days ago I used the tractor for light work. After three hours the needle had moved to the line between the safe operating area and the red zone. I shut down when that happens. It has never boiled over. So, how can I test the gauge?

You could use a laser thermometer to monitor temp at different locations on the tractor. Is your 2040 a 3 cyl? If so does your 2040 have open or closed center hyd's IE is SN above or below 266749?
