My 8430 started to leak today. The hyd oil is coming from the front hyd pump up under the rad in front of the motor. Looks to be the seal on the shaft. QUESTION? Can i change the seal or need another pump? I dont have it out yet so i cant see it but was wondering is the seal put in from the outside or inside of the pump?

When the outer seal leaks, it's usually a sign the inner (pressure) seal (quad ring)is leaking excessively.

MAY be as simple as disassembling and replacing seals, or pump shaft may be grooved.

Too much endplay/worn bearings can cause oil to sneak past the quad ring, as well.

It 'is" the inner seal that is leaking,,and on that tractor you can slip the pump out with out pulling the hood and radiator, cut a couple blocks of wood to help catch it as it comes down out.If you want you can drop it in a 5 gallon bucket and ship it to me to reseal and bench test..

yep I c that. it can come right out the bottom. looks like it should be ok to do. I just wasn't sure on the seal. funny how much oil runs out of that while its running, steady stream.
