What to use to flush a tranny

Bought an 830 out of Canada and it is dripping fluid out of tranny pump plate. So I decided to drain all of the tranny/rearend fluid and replace the gasket.

First out was 2 gallon of water followed by something resembling grey snot.

What is a good way to flush the housing?

Anything to be cautious of when I remove the pump to replace the gasket?

I have always used a combination of Diesel and lacquer thinner mixture. Let it soak and flush.

Different tractor, but I found similar water and gunk in mine. Went ahead and pulled off the trnsmission cover, exposed the gearing, used a wood 18" shim shingle to scoop all the debris and gunk and c--p sediment out of the bottom. Got all of it, and glad I did.
