JD AMT 600 Block Heater? Cold Canadian winters *sigh*

Hi All - I did take a look to see if I could find anything on this.

We've got an old late-80s AMT 600 5-wheeler and it is a tank. It does everything we ask it to, and then some.

But now we're asking more... we want it to start in the winter too!

One JD service dept. says they can source/make some kind of block heater... they said it would be "pricey." Another JD parts dealer says to use a magnetic tractor oil pan heater.... just stick it on and go. $80.

Anyone have any experience with this?

LOVE this machine.

Thanks!
Jett

We've had an AMT 600 since new... it is a very
cold blooded machine. Don't happen to have a heated
garage to keep it in, do you?

I know, not much help. The magnet heater might not
be a bad idea, but they work best on a nice smooth
engine block side (think water cooled here, and I'm
not sure how well it might work on an oil pan.

Best of luck!

They are air cooled and have an aluminum block. Probably
not enough oil in them to heat. You might drain the oil and boil
it before you put it back in before you start it.
