John Deere Depression D

A fellow told me he was going to an auction sale that had several depression D's for sale. What does he mean by a 'depression D'?

Almost certain he meant they were made and sold during depression years of 1930's. What that really means is that there are ( were ) relatively fewer of them.

People are always trying to attach some "useless significance" to the old John Deeres to make them seem rare and sell for more than they are worth.
Several years ago the corn boar D John Deere was the rage. The only difference from a regular D were the decals on the hood.

Ya I have a 1927 D. Its rare because it has the solid flywheel keyed to the shaft and a PTO and serial number 46792 :) :). You know what you mean. Some of it gets ridiculous at times.

Or my personal favorite "brass tag".

I kind of thought that was the case. I've got a shelf full of books related to antique tractors and none of them ever contained an article referring to a depression D.
Thanks Guys.
