630 transmission

What is the proper shifter fork alignment for a 630 transmission? I recently replaced the shifteing lever and im having troubles getting the shifter forks aligned.

Your repair not very descriptive. Did you just remove the quadrant? Nothing should have gotten out of adjustment. You prossibly didn"t get the shifter in the right place on assembly. To adjust the rails you would have to remove side covers....major job.

it got stuck in reverse after I toughened up the clutch and I had to loosen the clutch to get it to come out. when I backed it into the shed it was stuck in reverse and wouldn't come out.

It sounds like there was pressure on the transmission shafts (think about binding). This is often a problem on similar model JD's in 1st gear due to the extreme gear reduction it is nearly like a multiplying of force on the gear teeth. I often have to engage/disengage the clutch in combination with the brakes to get out of 1st gear sometimes. Reverse is similar to 2nd gear in speed so this could also be an issue.
Another thing that might not be helping you is if there is rust on one of the shift rails.

If your clutch is improperly adjusted it might not be helping your situation, but probably only if extremely out-of-adjustment.

Generically, if your clutch has an audible "SNAP" when engaging and disengaging that doesn't require a herculean effort, it's close to being correctly adjusted. The other major part of that adjustment is the pulley brake...these are often worn and way out of adjustment. If the pulley brake pad is too loose or too tight it could contribute to your transmission shifter issue.

I'd hardly think your transmission shafts are way off unless the shifter comes out of the shift rails (it would feel like it's not engaging or no resistance the rails when you're trying to shift). This would be possible if you have one or more severely worn bearings, but not as likely of a cause.

Hope this make sense.

Its nothing to do with the clutch... it was stuck in reverse when I took it apart to replace the shifter handle because that was what I was told that needed to be replaced and now im having a hard time getting the shifter forks realigned and put back together.
