John Deere M steers wrong

I recently purchased a john deere model M at an auction. The man was near finished restoring this tractor when he died. I have found that when I turn the steering wheel to the left, the front wheels turn right. Kinda hard to get used to. I pulled the gear box apart and it appears that the worm gear is cut wrong. I think it is the wrong part. This tractor has a spread front end. The number stamped on the gear is S123154NE. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

first off I think the axle is in the tractor
BACKWARDS. it should be turned a half. easiest way
of knowing is the the steering arms or PIPES should
be up front ahead of the axle. if they are behind
and parallel with the axle then it is in wrong.
Dont feel bad, it is not the first time this has
happened. good luck

Thankyou J.D. Adict. You were correct. I compared the axle position on another M model. I'll change it over monday. It
will be nice to have normal steering.

I replaced the steering gearbox on my uncle's430U one time. Apparently got the gearbox for a different configuration.(S,T etc) it all fit and I didn't try it out before he came to pick it up. Steered backwards. Had to send gearbox back and get the right one. My uncle had a small job to do but said he just couldn't get it in his head to steer opposite.
