Any tricks to rebuilding an auto gas shut off sed bowl?

Wondering if there are any tips out there for rebuilding an auto shut off sed bowl for a JD 50 520 530. I guess they are all the same. If not let me know. Do I put sealant on each side of the Diaphragms? I know the positioning of the parts are critical. I did take a pic prior to disassembly. Any tips are welcome. Its my 1st attempt so I want to do it right. I see nothing in the JD 50 service manual.

Thanks!

Do not use sealant. It will seal up just fine . You did good by taking pics, will help you a lot. Look for crud and clean up good prior to assembly. Not much to them. . .good luck.

I just did one of these the other day and used parts from Mark Schraut. The diaphragms looked just fine. The total cost for the bowl rebuilding kit was $15 and included both diaphragms, the center sealing washer, bowl gasket, brass screen and all the screws. When I assemble these I install all of the screws loosely and press on the center primer button. I THEN tighten the screws. Very often people tighten the screws without doing this. As soon as the diaphragms get pressure on them they stretch and later fail. Bad fuel, quality of parts, etc. usually gets the blame. I have bowls out there with many years of service on them and have yet to have one fail quickly. Mike

Take a grinder and cut a mark down the side of it . it will give you the exact markings for the pieces to go back together.it is easy to get the middle piece in upside down.

I put fine sandpaper on a flat surface and clean up and true up the flat surfaces. Make sure all the parts were in it originally as someone may of left something like the flat metal spring cap out. I have also seen the centers in wrong.
IIRC? Concave side goes towards top so you can push it open far enough manually. Do like Mike Aylward does and put all screws in loose then depress plunger to pre stretch diaphrams just like briggs and stratton chokes and then tighten the screws a little at a time.
Only place for sealer is on the little pipe plug that seals the passage. You would not believe how much of who knows what junk I have cleaned from that passage.
