JD 40== 420

Yes , the engine should bolt up to the torque tube and the bolster. How ever the lower water pipe may be an issue connecting the engine to the radiator. Also the 40 radiator has a large upper water pipe located to the side of the radiator, where the 420 has a small upper radiator water pipe located in the center of the radiator . You would probably have to replace the radiator to get eveything to match up. Also , 420 has a larger manifold ,which uses a large carburator, which uses a large air hose, which requires a 420 air cleaner. Good luck , Tom
