replacing head gasket on 42b what are opinions
on useing some silicone gasket goo or not to
goo on surfaces along with gasket?

Depends what the manufacturer says.. If anything, I would use Indian Head Gasket Shellac, available at most auto parts stores... No silicone......

Do not use silicone on the head gasket. I use spray can of copper to coat head gasket from auto supply store on head gasket and have no problems with it.
Other head gasket treatments work.
Where do you plan on getting a head gasket?

Funny how all these years I never linked that brand directly to head gaskets. LOL at myself !

I thought of it as Indian Head---gasket shellac

Now when seen it written out thought of
Indian---Head gasket shellac.

So was it really made for head gaskets ? I'll have to read the directions on a bottle of it.

On that gasket you shouldn't need anything. Install it dry. Let the gasket do it's work. I am not a fan of the copper spray, either. It is only slightly removed from silicone, in my estimation. The only head gasket I ever had leak was from using copper spray due to a customer's insistence on using it. Never again. Silicone is a disaster on a head gasket. Mike

I use # 99ma Permatex. Maybe you could use a very thin coat of silicone where the water jacket is close to the outside on each side of the head. Sometimes they like to seep there.

I think "Indian Head" was the brand name. Didn't the lable have an indians head on it at one time?
Wouldn't use it on anything I can think of.
