Im needing to pull my injection pump to rebuild. Just wanting to know the procedure or any tips and advice from yall. I also want to pull my injectors. They are the pencil type. Any tips on pulling them as well? Thanks

and to add to that remove the timing window cover on the pump and turn engine till the timing marks line up "then" look at the fly wheel mark, it should be on or near TDC at that point. Be careful when you pry the injectors out they tend to bend a bit when you pry them, twisting them back and forth a bit helps. replace all the return boots when you go back together...

There's a special slide-hammer puller made for getting the injectors out. The end wedges tight into the two slots on te sides of the injector bases. Without that tool -it's just a matter of luck, twisting, prying, cursing, etc.

I have seen those but never used one....I made a nice one for pulling 4430 style nozzles...I have seen some very tight pencil nozzles,, to where I thought I was going to have to pull the head and drive them out with a punch...

When the pump goes to the pump shop, tell them that you want a solid governor retaining ring. That ring failing is the biggest problem with those pumps. Pump shops dont like to hear people say that. I guess they then know they wont be rebuilding it again anytime soon.

The tractor engine would race up on start and would then die. Then I would clean out the mouse turds and would run fine. I got pump and injectors off with no problem but I was wondering if I need to use a thread sealant on any of these lines when reinstalling?

Thanks for the info. We get a lot of people on here that randomly install new/rebuilt parts and still have problems.

When reinstalling should I rotate engine to get the "backlash" I think its called off then recheck timing, Thank you
