I recently was given a $100 gift certificate to
the local JD dealer by a club. A knowledgeable
gentleman helped me diagnose my hard starting '41B
to a less than robust mag; he recommended using JD
parts and not aftermarket points, condensor, rotor
and cap gasket. I fully expected that the JD parts
would be more $$, maybe half again as expensive as
the knockoffs.
I ordered the parts and went in to pick them up
this morning and the parts guy asked me how I
wanted to pay the difference...
I said wha??? what difference, the gift
certificate is for $100.
The total came to $188 !!!!!
$60 rotor, $49 points, $57 Cond, $8 gasket.
Needless to say, the only JD part I bought was the
gasket, and instead asked for the AI generics.
I will pay a premium for quality parts, but this
is insane.
The AI generics cost $44 and change. Am I completely out of line or is this
lunacy?
