You graciously answered my question about 'B' regulator wiring the other day. When I wire brushed the terminals on the reg., they are stamped, from left to right, the pulley being on the right and the terminals on top, 'F'. "GEN', and 'BAT'. It appears to be a 1118786 Regulator. The wiring diagram indicates that the white (ammeter) and black (light) wires should both be attached to the BAT terminal. There is still the question of why the 'F' post on the Generator is wired to the base mounting screw of the Regulator. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Okay, that"s just a 3 terminal VR (FLD GEN BAT)

So it still wires as I said:

BAT to Load (NOT Battery/Starter) side of Ammeter
GEN to Gennys ARM post
FLD to Gennys FLD Post

NOW the gennys FLD should NOT be wired to the VR case which is giving it a permanent dead ground which by passes the VR"s normal regulation function causing it to always max charge which can overcharge and damage the battery. I would wire the gennys FLD post ONLY to the VR"s FLD terminal NOT to VR case. Farmer Billy Bob or his know it all brother in law Bubba may have wired the Gennys FLD to ground cuz their cousin Jim Bob told them it makes them charge good (which it does until the battery overcharges or the genny craps out) or perhaps a VR was bad so dead grounding to the case made it charge again WHO KNOWS LOL

Theres no problem if the VR BAT terminal wires up to the load side of the ammeter PLUS that (VR"s BAT terminal) also serves as the hot voltage feeds to the lights. Often lights are fed off the load side of the ammeter (instead of BAT on VR) and the VR"s BAT terminal is basically the same thing as it wires to the ammeter anyway.

Just a side note on John's input..... A lot of of old farmers would ground the field wire when the voltage regulator quit working. It got them by until they could get parts. Problem is, that most of them stayed that way for quite a while and ruined a lot of batteries and battery boxes...
