336 baler tying question

It sat a long time in a barn.I bought it,greased it,soaked it,took it to the field to try it out.Tied perfect on left, and hanging up on the right.I cleaned the pieces of twine out of the hook and it began tying perfectly, baled 10 bales, and it began missing on the left side,Not even tying the knot now, just leaving 2 loose ends, and I cant see what its NOT DOING,even turning it over by hand,Its delivering the twine, grabbing it,but not tying where it just was 2 minutes beforehand. Its got those hooks that spin around when it trips and they have that little clamp finger deal on there that holds the knot until more hay hits the plunger and pulls the knot off of there tied.I feel its something right there.Which piece would malfunction or stick and cause 2 loose ends that quick?

You need on operator's manual, as there's a detailed section on knotter problems/fixes.

You could have twine disk, billhook, or tucker finger issues.

BTW, you wrote "hay hits the plunger and pulls the knot off of there tied"...

Actually, the knife arm,/wiper arm is supposed to do just that.
348 baler knotter info... should be similar

A knotter problem is one of those things that are near impossible to walk some one through on here that is not familiar with the actual operation of one...There are some you tube clips of Knotter operation that are very good, but I don"t have the linc,,some one one here may have it.. it will help you a lot.

Might sound silly, but when this happened to me on a red baler, I learned the hard way it was time to sharpen the twine knife to a razor edge again. And that was the only thing that needed doing. I tried to modify the clamp fingers so they would hold better or longer and a dozen other things that I thought might help, and nothing did except sharpening those knives. At one point it was pulling both twines in two with a ragged ended knot left around the knotter head somehow, the bill hook was holding the twine that hard. And it just caused me even more grief than from where I started at. I'm sure it's in the manual to have sharp knives, but it's NOT first on the list for this problem. It is in my book.

You are not "Silly" a dull twine knife can cause a lot of trouble,,but on this one the guy said that both ends were sticking up like the bill hook never had a chance with them ?? could be a bill hook drive pin broken,,bad bill hook,,tucker finger not pushing the twine to the bill hook ?? I went out on one a few weeks ago and the guy had the twine on the wrong side of the needle hole..But before he called me he "Un-adjusted" a lot of things trying to make it work...you need to have some basic knowledge on the theory of operation before you get into one of these...

Bob's suggestions are good. There also are several you utube videos. Punch in baler knotter.
The first baler I bought in 1975 was a great baler. But, as mentioned before it is hard to give advice without looking at the knotter.
First thing I would do is take out the 3/8 bolt out that holds the knotter down. Do it with both knotters and swing the knotter up. Compare what the left and right knotters are doing.

Saw it in the daylight. The billhook is missing its finger..How in the world?or whats the way to get the billhook out to replace it?
