Need a lil help. Friend of mine needed to replace steering wheel.. Instead of using a puller, he went banging on the rear of the wheel till it came off. Upon replacing new steering wheel and starting tractor up the 1 finger effortless steering he had before is GONE. Know it takes nearly twice or more the orig effort it took originally. Any help from some who has been there, we have looked every ware to no avail. nothing appears visible. Thanks

Carlyle,
On the 530 the problem would have to be somewhere along the steering shaft and the universals. As the shafts do not connect to the steering unit like the other tractors

Thanks, but something is wrong after the BANGING, as i have driven that tractor before and after words and he messed up something??????????????? Thanks

The pics are a 530. Looks like all that could be messed up is the rear area . My first look would be if he messed up the bushings OR the shaft is riding slightly higher or lower and is no longer in it's worn area causing drag . Second choice and probably best would be that the banging slid the rear upright shaft out of the u-joint slightly from the banging and now the shaft going forward is dragging on the gas tank strap or the tank itself . Really isn't anything else to mess up there . Definitely not fragile stuff either !??! Dave

What has happened is the hammer blow has telegraphed to your power steering unit and has damaged pins, and control. Bad choice with the impact. A puller would have easily removed the wheel.

Machinery Man,
If you work on the 30 series tractors you will find that the steering shafts only slide in the control sleeve and are not connected like the earlier tractors.
It still was a bad idea taking the steering wheel off with a hammer.
