I bought part number 1121 and it says negative ground and I have the positive ground can I still use it? or do I need to switch the 70 john deere gas over to negative ground?

Switch it to negative ground. Besides the obvious change at the battery you will need to switch the wires at the coil and the ammeter. It's pretty straightforward. Others may chime in with more. Mike

Ok since I don't need the generator can I just run a belt from the water pump to the fan shaft and bypass the generator and then just switch the battery around to negative ground??

You can do that but how are you going to put tension on the belt without the generator? How do you plan to keep the battery charged? Going to use a plug-in battery charger when not using the tractor?

I would just un hook the wires from the generator and still use the gen for tension... Since I don't use the tractor for anything more then pulling there is no need to run the generator and use up horsepower. I eliminated the fan wich save 5-8 hp on the dyno.
Can I just wire the two wire together that go to the generator now that way I still complete that circuit to start the tractor?
then just swap everything else around correct??

Tape up both wires so they don't connect to anything if you want to use the generator as an idler pulley only. This not a circuit for starting although I'm having a recollection moment and can't figure out what the second wire would be for in the first place. One wire should be coming from the amp gauge which needs to be isolated and you don't need to swap terminals on the gauge if you aren't going to charge the battery via the generator anymore. The other wire should come from the voltage regulator to the generator and it might be best to just remove the voltage regulator entirely to leave the generator without any wires on it connected.

That just leaves the battery to swap around, follow the installation guide as to which sign on the coil terminals to wire the electronic ignition too - I would have popped for the flamethower coil while I was at it and this can be added at anytime.
