Converting a JD 70lp over to gasoline.

Is it possible and what would be involved other than the obvious(tin work, fuel tank, carb, etc.). Thanks for the help.

It's possible but why? Unless you are going to use it.
I would think it is worth more as propane if collecting or for show.

Propane is a lot cheaper to run now than gas and plus it won't go bad sitting in the tank.
You may just want to leave it as is ?

You can fill them from a small tank.

To answer your question put a gas carb. on it hook up gas to it and run it. May need some timing adjustments ? Should run on gas without spark knocking.

Yes, a 70LP can be converted over to gasoline.

"Vernon" our 56 Model 70 was converted to gasoline by the original owner.

The original LP manifold is still being used.

The original distributor is still being used.

Hope this helps and good luck with your conversion.

If the tank ain't bad I would leave it LP. I know a guy with a 60 LP the regulator or something went bad rather than fixing it he put a gas carb on it and used the LP tank as his gas tank. He rigged up a line on the bottom to feed the carb and somehow made it where he could put the gas in on the top . Might cost you a good penny to find all the parts like the hood tank etc to change it over .

Hi Tim, Uncle Gene has a 70lp that was converted to gas when he bought it as a basket case. It has a two barrel dltx carb that I don t remember the no. The lp tank works very well for gas. The guage works the same for gas as it does for lp. There is a 1 inch pipe plug on top to fill it. On the bottom of the tank are plugs marked liquid and vapor. You use the liquid for gas. It runs great on gas, and when he takes it to the local pulls in Colorado he gets accused of running a hot-rod because of the higher compression:) I think I would keep the LP parts for possible future use. Good luck, VH

Thanks for all of the replys guys. I'm picking it up today. All I know about it so far is that it's stuck and supposedly has a bad head gasket. I'll put some pictures up later.
