3010 vs. 3020 road gear speed

I have been looking at various tractor makes and road gear speeds on tractor data.com. I noticed tonight that the 3010 is rated with the synchro trans at 14.5 mph. at an engine speed of 1900 rpm. They don't specify tire size. The 3020 with the same transmission is rated at 17.5 mph. They don't specify tire size or rpm. It doesn't really matter but I am curious. Is there a speed difference between the 3010 and 3020?

Also, the 1900 speed on the 3010 is pto speed. The 3020's is 2100. This would account for some of the difference in addition to the tire size difference. Pull the throttle peg and with the same tires the speeds would be pretty identical. Mike

I have owned several of each and if they both have 15.5 X 38 rear tires a 3010 has a faster speed. The same for a 4010 as well. They seem almost 1/3 gear faster in the feild and it really showed up puling silage wagons on the road. When younger dad would mow hay wth his 3020 and me with my 3010 and he would yell at me for running to fast(He said I was mowing in 4th instead of 3rd)as I would always cut more hay than him. Some tractor pullers like a 4010 better because of the faster gearing. Tom

I think you are correct on 3010/4010 being faster as some gears may have been different in the rear end. Not sure if it was the ring and pinion or the gears at the axle.

Not all tractors are created equal. My 4010 will outrun my neighbors 4010 on the road but his will out do mine in the field always have since new. They both have the same tires all around running the same rpm's. We both have 4430's and his will out run mine on the road like it's standing still. Again same tires and both made in the same year. Just one of those things.

I looked at the tech manuals today and they break down the speeds by rpm and tire size. I didn't have time to write it all down though. It is interesting to see the different speeds though. I'll see if I can get the charts to scan sometime.

Since JD didn't build different gear ratio trans &/or diff. then different road speeds would have to come from different size tires &/or engine rpms. Not all brands of tires of the same size have the same outside diameter. On a set of duals with used tires I had on my 4255 one dual tire barely touched the ground and all four tires were 18.4X38.

I'm not about to argue with you Tx Jim because I know you know more than I do. I do know that brands of tires are all different. For many years here the only place that we could buy tires and have them mounted with fluid was a Goodyear dealer several miles away. He would charge a service call every place he stopped at so we went together whenever possible and bought tires. So our 4010s both have the same Goodyears bought the same day. I can't remember which model right now without checking. Both 4430s run Goodyear Dyna Torques. He roads his tractors more than I do to get to some of his fields so he wears his down faster than I do. Still his 4430 leaves mine behind. When we help each other we'll be in the same field and stay right with each other but down the road he walks away. The 2510s are a different story though. I bought new Firestones and the next day he had his 2510 sitting next to it and his half wore down Goodyears still made him look like he was 6 inches or better taller.

I'm not trying to argue just stating things I know. Also tire pressures would come into play and as I stated engine RPM's. A couple 100 RPM differences makes a lot of difference in top speed.

Don't you just hate that slow road gear in a 2510.It should have been a 9 or 10 speed trans instead of 8 or maybe some engineer was sleeping. My kids hate pulling wagons on the road with it.
