I have a John Deere R tractor that I don't run much fuel through in a year's time and now the fuel smells like varnish not diesel fuel. so I drained out the old fuel is there any thing I can do to the fuel to make it last longer? or should I just drain it out every so often? just had the fuel pumps rebuilt three years ago and do not want to spend that kind of money agin for while thanks bigtim72

Diesel fuel should "Keep" for years, if you prevent Algae..

You weren't smelling the "Pony" engine fuel, were ya.?

I don't run much fuel through my diesel either, so I use Howe's and I pour in a dollop of algae-inhibitor from time to time. Never have had a problem, just trying to prevent one.

What if anything can be done to help keep it usable.??

I assume you are not referring to "Bio-diesel"..

I would not expect Bio-diesel to store well..

Ron.
