6030 or 5020?

We have a tractor we"re looking at possibly buying but can"t determine which it is. it is a late model with the side console but the tin with the model number is gone. I have checked the serial number on the back and I can"t find it.

it is T813R 006862R. This is on the tag on the back where I have alwasy seen them but nothing matches. There is also a number on the engine, it is M25R0 238520?. It does have a turbo on it and it looks like a factory one.
Ideas?

There are serial numbers on this site as well as others, so you should find it with a minimum of problems.

Also, to make ID easier, there were no side console 5020s.

Welllllllllllll. There were early 5020's with 24V starting and late 5020's with a 12V starter and 12V alternator. There were several changes made. iirc also now standards but rowcrops with optional standard sheet metal.

B and D, you are correct as to the fact there were changes made in 69, that included a 12 volt system, hydraulics you could adjust rate without a screwdriver, an oval muffler, etc. BUT, the late ones had the hyds on the dash, and not a console.

My family has owned 2 1970 5020s, both had the hydraulics on the dash. One is still here.

There seems to be some confusion as to what happened in '72.... the 6030 was introduced somewhere in there at the end of 72, and the 5020 dicontinued. Shortly thereafter, the 6030 was offered with the 5020 engine as a 141 hp model. These would have been consoles.

Did some 5020s leave the factory with the console at the very end??? Could be, but the parts books say no. And check out production numbers of the 5020 after the 4620 hit the market- not many made at all in 72.

Out here in Montana were a majority of 5020s were sold its hard to find a 1970-1972 model. I'm wagering the only reason JD offered the 6030 with the 5020 engine was to use up extra engines laying around.

guys the 6030 was offered with ether turbo or natural aspirated 531 engine. not many non turbo were made. some say only 30

My info states 45 non turbod. Our 6030 was never touched and ran over 250H.P. with 0 problems except it was noisey compared to the Sound Guard body. The 5020 I demonstrated would pull a 6 bottom plow but not very fast.

I find it just the opposite, 5020 will out lug our 4620. Can't beat the big block for torque. The 404 in the 46 is like a 2 stroke, keep it wound tight.
