Serial number plate removal

Deere used "drive screws", or "drive rivets".

If you can catch the head with a small, sharp chisel, or carefully slot it with a Dremel, they will unscrew.

Those things are too hard to drill.
Try a narrow chisel to keep tag damage to a narrow area. Sometimes they will back out a little where you can screw them out w/vise grips. If frozen they will break off before backing out.

Ok guys, just learned something.
Tried drilling out the rivets and like was said, they are very hard. Ended up breaking the bit. Was using a 3/32" bit.
Anyhow I took the shaft of the broken bit in a pair of vice grips and after soaking the studs in PB Blaster I was able to drive the studs through leaving a perfect hole for new rivets.
This is on a MT. Don't know if it would work on all models.

Hey, I am a little confused on this issue. correct me if Im wrong but can you not get behind the dash and with a real hard punch, hammer out the rivits from behind and not damage anything. the tag, the rivits and the dash housing will be perfect. Im guessing you didnt want to take out the battery and remove the cover for the regulator and key switch.
thats how I have removed them on an M or MT that I am wrecking.

No your absolutely correct ..... I just didn't realize that before I chiseled the heads off. The tractor is completely broke down doing a complete restoration. With all the rust on the inside of the dash I didn't realize the rivets were sticking through.
