Behlen Power Steering Intallation

I'm adding a Behlen power steering unit, live pump and reservoir to my '51 JD A. Is there anything needed to "mount" or "stabilize" the PS unit, or just splice it into the steering shaft? I've seen some with brackets around the steering column, but not sure if these are necessary.

Also, what fluid would be best? An older post from 2002/3 discussed hytran vs. 30 wt. motor oil. Or could it use 80/90 GL?

Thanks,

Dan

Ive got one on my 51 A all so. i put it on when i put the wide front on it .was pushin snow yesterday and can steer it with one finger. and yes you have to have a mount to hold it in the tractor. ill try to git some pidhers of it tonight when i git home from work. Bob

Dan ive been working all day plowing snow( i work for the county road crew) and it was dark when i got home. sow ill try to git it done in the next day or so. sorry Bob

No problem. Sure can't control the weather! I was looking over my reservoir and there must have been different mounting brackets. Either that or I can't figure out where to mount it. Be good to see what your set-up looks like.

Take care,

Dan

Dad put one on our '52 A when we got old enough to start helping with the field work. That was 40 years ago and it still works great. It has a bracket that attaches to the steering column. Some type of support is need to keep the unit itself from turning. I can send a pic of ours if you get me an email address.

These are great and I know what to do now. It looks so straight forward after seeing a picture. Hope you are enjoying the holiday! Are you "Badger" Bob from Wisconsin by chance? I grew up in Hudson, WI, now living across the river in MN.
