Have a 440 1960 diesel wheeled tractor. Has reverser and 5
speed tranny. I just started it for the first time as it was sitting
in po lot for last three or 5 years. Started and ran great except
leaking engine oil on left side by engine pretty bad???
My question is this. When I got to it it was in first gear or lower
left. I let out clutch nothing. Tried reverser nothing. Pto
nothing. Then put in second gear and moved great ahead
then used reverser worked fine. No pto still. Tried I believe
third no go. 4 th worked fine. Did not run long due to oil leak
but why no 1st and believe third and pto. Tried pto back and
forth but maybe didn't do right. Am I doing something wrong?
Probably need to pull cover but checking first. Po thought all
gears were fine before sitting. Any help appreciated. Thanks
