4020 kinze repower

I have a John Deere 4020 with a kinze 6v71 detroit conversion. I purchased the tractor a few years back. It's not in the greatest shape but ran when we brought it home. Gonna start restoring the tractor this winter. Anyone know exactly how many 4020s got repowered? From what I gather there were less than 10. Also what is the value on a tractor like this? Just looking to get a little info on the tractor. Thanks.

Many more than ten.
I would think not a lot of value more of a conversation piece.

D- there are very few kinze 4020s out there. I only know of two others I have seen. 5020s with the detroit coversion are more common. There are not many kinze 6v71 detroit conversions out there.

The value would be less than a nice original.Jon K.could tell you the exact number. Some nice ones[5020s] sell really well around $40/50K.They definitely are attention catchers but much too noisy for most people.

There used to be several guys make the rounds of tractor pulls with their Kinze re-powered tractors in the late 1960's early 1970's.

Our local pull in Cambridge,IL used to have 3-4 re-powered 4020's every Sunday nite at the pull. There were 318-powered 4020's too, 8V-71's. And the 6V-71's. NO 5010/5020's, too heavy!

I have seen three myself in KY. I would think there were several more than those around the country. Know personally of 8v71 in a 4520 PS. They bought it new and hauled it to Kinze before taking it home.

The 318s Dr EVIL speaks of were not Kinze. They wouldn't put them in 4020s.
They also wouldn't put them in 4520 synchros, only power shifts and told not to shift them under load.
They were ideal for those heavy under powered 5010/5020.

A 6V-71 will gross 270HP and 617lb ft of torque on the flywheel with N70 injectors at 2300rpm.
Even with N50's at 1800rpm is 150HP and 438lb ft of torque.

I live in Kentucky. I know of a 4520 with the kinze 8v71 repower. It's around the LaGrange area. Belonged to a great guy by the name of Terry Clubb. He passed away a few years ago and I believe his son has it now. There was a kinze 8v71 repowered 4620 in Simpsonville but the guy sold it a couple years back. One of the 3 4020s you have seen may be the one I own now if you are from Kentucky. I have yet to see another 4020 with the 6v71 repower from Kinze. They are rare. Not many tractors got repowered with the v6.

Makes me miss the old days with the Freightliner cabover 318 and 13 speed. Those twin stacks sure sounded nice. 8)
