CJ,
looks like a nice condition. What model/year is
it?
Now that my '41B is fully functional I have begun
the search for a #5 mower. Mine is a flat back
though, and the mounting hardware "seems" to be
the
hardest parts to find. I think they were cast from
unobtanium.
I'm open to any suggestions or direction in
finding a good condition or restorable #5.
Congrats, let us know how it works...

Looks like your Model 39 mower is in good shape.

Should work just fine for y'all.

You might consider adding weights to the front end of your 40T.

Our 40T was a little light with a 7ft JD 350 sickle mower.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Model #39 not sure of the year. Looks like it will work good on our 40T, but haven't tried it yet. We have a #5 that we plan on fixing up for one of our B's. Seems to be a quite a few #5's around, but I don't know of any for sale right now.

Good info. I was wondering if we might need to add some weights to keep the front from walking around.

Sure would be a long trip, but we have several #5 mowers that are for sale.

(quoted from post at 11:26:40 07/17/14) Front weights are still available, but will come with a "hefty" price.

We have a wide front on our 40T so I'm hoping that helps a little. Would be nice to have a set of those weight's to hang on it.

Mr. Howell,
it WOULD be a long trip but I'd sure enjoy the visit and getting to see all your toys!
Please, don't go to any extra trouble, but IF you already have photo's of a #5 and, in particular, the attachment points/hardware I'd love to see them for reference whilst I'm searching up north here. E-mail is open if you have anything you feel could be helpful. I have no experience with this type of mower and honestly, I'm not sure I'd know if any important elements were missing.

Here"s a link that describes "[i:654c4848f0]the attachment points/hardware[/i:654c4848f0]" for the No. 5 mower.

Take a look at the information and let me know if you have any questions.

41B, if you do find a #5 I might have the foot lift for a #5. I'll have to check tomorrow. Came off an unstyled B and I used it on my flat back unstyled A for awhile. I really didn't mind using the foot lift. I could control the bar height with my left foot and still have one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the clutch. If I threw it away someone had better give me a swift kick! Jim

Mr. Howell,
Thanks. Most helpful. I've been to Gene's website many times but don't recall seeing his mower page. I found most of the answers I didn't know I needed to have answered.
Armed w/ this info I can search more thoroughly in the northwest states.
