John Deere 1630 disk plow Cylinder - TY7176 question

All, Put new hoses on a John Deere 1630 disk plow that had not been used in several years. Luckily the cylinders still had hydraulic fluid in them. Greased it up and gave it a try. Worked fairly well plowing with it behind 4430 for almost an hour, until one of the hydraulic hose 90 elbow adapters came loose from Hydraulic Cylinder TY7176. Seems like the threads are not fitting right. I used a new [b:2a90487eca]tractor supply 1/2" male o-ring (3/4-16 thread) by 1/2"female pipe swivel 90 degree adapter (sku#1818024)[/b:2a90487eca] instead of the John Deere adapter AU11849 (JD didn't have them in stock). The male side mates to cylinder. Evidently threads were not the right size or the cylinder threads have been damaged in past. QUESTION: Can anyone read the JD parts details and see if the threads are 3/4-16 on the cylinder. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank You

TY7176 cylinder is replaced by TY8629. Port sizes are not shown on www.jdparts.com.

TY8629

Specification
Weight: 26.54 LBS 12.04 Kg
Bore Diameter 3.000 IN
Rod Diameter 1.250 IN
Stroke 8.000 IN
Closed Length 20.250 IN

But they ARE shown for the TY8629 at the link below:
End Type-Rod & Cap 0202
Rod End Size 1.016 IN
Cap End Size 1.016 IN
HydroMax Cylinders

Are you sure the cyl is truly a TY7176 with o-ring bosses or just a cyl with 1/2 NPT threads. I can't remember exactly but I think 3/4" ORB male will fit in female pipe threads loosely.

Appreciate the guidance. Believe it is a TY7176 as
one of them is marked clearly and both look the
same type cylinder. Have no idea if it is an
oring boss, but the old worn out adapter it
replaced did have an o-ring on the male adapter
threads.

Jim, sounds like you believe I may have the wrong
adapter if they fit loosely. What should I go
with, something with 1/2 pipe (as opposed to 3/4-
16)?

[Bob, Noticed the new JD replacement shows a 3/4-
16-ORB SAE #8. Interestingly the tractor supply
adapter has a #4 in the upper right hand corner
near the thread specification of 3/4-16 thread.
Not sure if it is related to the type of threads
or not. Bet those new ones are expensive. Saw
where a tractor supply grizzly replacement
cylinder was around 125.]

Ordered John Deere adapter AU11849 this morning. This is what the 1630 plows parts list showed as the stock adapter elbow. Hopefully it will have the right threads and will work well. Keeping my fingers crossed. It should arrive Friday. Thanks

The ORB orifice on the cylinder should have a slight bevel for o-ring whereas if it's NPT the orifice should be flat. I've seen those OEM ORB tie bolt cylinders exchanged for NPT type tie bolt cylinders on several JD tandems

Jim,

Believe it was a flat surface on the cylinder orifice. Will look closely this weekend. Thank you.

What is the most cost effective way to buy hygard hydraulic oil? I've just been buying it by the gallon jug. If I've read this forum right, we are never to use any other type of hydraulic oil and I have not.

Thanks

All,

It was confirmed as a flat surface on the cylinder orifice. Funny thing was that the new John Deere 90 degree swivel adapter AU... was also loose in the hole much like the tractor supply 90 degree swivel adapter and it leaked fluid around the teflon wrapped threads. So I pulled it out and started comparing to some of my old hydraulic fittings and found an older fitting that was visually slightly larger in male thread diameter. To my surprise it actually worked perfectly in the cylinder. So I used the old adapter with good success.

Obviously I may not have the TY 7176 cylinder that I thought was there. The cylinder on other side of plow is clearly marked TY 7176, likely this is a different type.

Just wanted to close the loop and thank you fellows for the guidance.

Have a Good Week
