Injection pump temp snsor

What is the purpose of the temperature sensor or switch that when the if fails it shutdown the tractor ? I have replaced a few in the past two to three years. I can not find a wiring diagram or description of this sensor/switch. Any help would be deeply appreciated, also what is the recommendation to keep from having repeat failures.

Just wondering what tractor you have....The system is set up to advance the timing on cold start up (at temperatures colder than I imagine Ga sees) I have seen them fail on 5xxx and 6xxx series tractors but not repeatedly. When they give issues there they go to ground and blow the ignition fuse causing the tractor to quit. I don"t have a schematic here to be able to tell you how to eliminate it from the system as I believe you could get by without it.

They will run with them un-pluged..I keep one on hand, and yes they are to change the timing slightly when cold, and when the go to ground they shut the tractor down,,leaving you setting there wondering "what the Heck" just happened, when ever I replace one I also replace the pump fuse with a circuit breaker that plugs in like the fuse does, I get them from Kimball Midwest sales, they work well in other areas too, give you a chance to re-start and get off the road..Every one that has a 5 or 6000 series tractor and they shut down for no obvious reason should keep this in mind and unplug the pump temp sensor (and replace the pump fuse)to get back going, they do fail a lot more than you would imagine...this is just some thing else for us to deal with as the tractor technology continues to change..

Thank you for the information. What size circuit breaker [amps] are you using for the injection pump? The system I am working on now is a delimber using a JD4505 engine. The only fuse is before the automatic shutdown switch [Murphy switch]. The switch is electronic and when the circuit went to ground it took out the murphay switch and the fuse. I am putting in an inline fuse with the injection pump.

I think they have a 10 amp fuse in them and I used a 20 amp breaker...a bit more but I felt it would still be okay...
