I have a 1940 A hand cranker. It always starts fairly easy, especially in cooler weather. Yesterday, I had it running in the yard, I left the area for a few minutes. When I returned it had stopped running and would not re-start. It seemed like it was getting fuel fine. I check both plugs and they looked OK. I then with a meter checked all wires for continuity and they were OK. I pulled the smaller, outside cap on the Wico Type C magneto. I checked both plug wire terminals with the tracking terminals on the inside of the cap. On the right (belt pulley) side, there was no continuity. I ordered a new cap and rotor. My question is: Wouldn't it continue to run on one cylinder? Will my fix be in by replacing the cap and rotor? Points look pretty good.

Might want to run some stiff paper, like the old match book paper, through the points to clean any residue off them.

ONLY POINTS or COND would make it not quit on BOTH. PUT the live wire on the other cyl also mag hole that will tell you.
