MT steering

I have a 1950 MT narrow front. Recently purchased but had to
sort out a rotted gas tank before I could drive it. Runs pretty
good. Next issue to tackle is a worn steering. Shimmies badly
with a lot of play in the steering wheel. Is there any
adjustment in the steering gear?

Yes, there's an adjustment on top of the worm gear housing, but often the problem is wear of the splined collar mid-way up the vertical portion of the steering shaft.

Leon hit the nail on the head. I rebuilt my entire steering system on my narrow front MT. 4th gear is SCARY with wobble. I know my problem is the splined connection and have had a hard time finding good used parts that fit tight. It may also be the pins that contact the worm gear in the steering box itself. You can find those on ebay. The rebuild did help mine out a lot from where it was but I still have that wobble.

Thanks. No time to get to it this week or next. Trying to get it ready for a parade late next month but if I can"t get it sorted by then I will not feel confident about driving it through crowds of people like it is.

Check the steering box input shaft connection. It is keyed and is may be the problem-it was on my MT. Steiner's have a new coupler (expensive) if this connection is worn-the coupler is at the front of the steering shaft. It has to be sawed off and the new one welded on. Be careful to get it welded straight ( no "runout"/as straight as possible).
