B brake guard holes

Wondering if anyone knows what the holes that are in the cast shields that go over the brakes are for. They are at the top near the rear and seem like they should have some reason for being there. Just wondering.

My uncle used to tell me "to make people ask questions" guess they worked as intended ! LOL.

A real answer just came to me.
I am thinking they are in line with the area that needed drilled for the adjuster pins. So with the flange on there they had to make access to drill them.
Flange may of been an attempt at protection from the rotating drum ?

EXACTLY! Those holes in that flange are EXACTLY in line with the pin inside that is not seen unless the drum is removed. I wondered for years what those holes were for until about 6 years ago I worked on someone else's early styled B. I think it was a '39 but not sure anymore. Anyhow, when I opened it up it all made perfect sense!

Same deal as the brass plug in the right side of the carburetor bores where they "reached" through to bore the little idle ports in the left side! Or the pipe plugs in the right side of the Power Trol valve bodies. They're all holes made for manufacturing the part.... some need tapped & plugged, some don't!
