How do I prime oil pump? Lost pressure, gears bad, replaced gears. Oil pressure looked good. Then heard pop. Oil pump gears seized and broke gear that drives oil pump. I don't think it was oil pressure problem. Any ideas on what to do when going back with this stuff? Gear backlash? Thanks for any info

if you let the 2 gears fall out when you took pump out you might not have put them back in the correct spot and did you use a gasket, then turn engin by hand to see if it wasnt in a bind???? did the couple break as well????

tmays, If you are trying to prime your pump I will assume you found a new drive gear and freed up the pump gears. You can pull the pump cover and pack it with grease and/or overfill the crankcase two or three quarts. On my 35A I did both, pulled the plugs, and dragged it around the yard a little. Pretty soon the pop-up came up and it was good to go. What did you find that bound up the pump gears tight enough to bust the drive gear? I you can find it , there is a great deal info on this subject in the archives on this site. Please let us know how you make out. VH

We put new gears in. Perhaps we didn't put them in right. How should they be oriented? Thanks

Thanks for pointers on priming pump. We still have no idea why gears seized. We have new gears, housing, and gasket. Trying not to repeat past mistake! Lol

whatever I have no clue, I know nothing about tractors but Im trying to learn as I go.Thanks for the info I will keep that in my notes.

Well we found why gears failed. Pickup screen was covered in sludge. Cleaned and installed everything and so far, so good. Thanks!

TO "PRIME" oil pump, drive right wheel up on 4 or 5 2 inch thick boards and start engine, usually stick will pop up in a few minutes.
