John Deere 4240 synchro good bad ugly?

Looking at one syncro open station rops would be used as back up baling tractor as well as mowing and raking tedding... Really wanted a 4020 but this is in same price range... Tractor has 7k hours on it..

The syngro is fine and 7000 hrs isn't that many.I actually wasn't sure if syngro was available in 4240.Are you sure its not a quad? If it is a syngro it does hurt value.

Might not cost as much but that is a plus when buying. If considering a 4020 syncro it is a better deal. Keep in mind it is higher HP and likely to use more fuel on those lighter jobs.

Got a 4240 with a cab and it is a utility tractor on a row crop frame. The fact that the shifts can be straight make it a perfect tractor to use as a loader tractor. I do not row crop so not sure if the gear splits work or not.

Had a 4430 with the syncro trans. Not a bad tractor, but after having the quad, I'd much rather have the quad. On mowing and jobs like it, the quad has i t hands down- just being able to slow down at the end of a row without throttling down or clutching. If I had a choice of a 4020 and a 4240, even the classic 4020 can kiss my bumper. The 4240 is a whole lot more tractor....
