Servicing my father in laws tractor. What modern engine oil do you guys put in you 70 diesels. Light fun use. I may use it for baling some squares. Coldest it will operate in is -10c and would be plugged in first. Hottest +35c and rare. He has 15w40 Diesel engine oil in now.

Was going to in 10w30 in as manual calls for hydraulic. Agree?

15-40 in the engine is fine. For the hydraulics use a universal tractor fluid such as Deere Hy Guard or equivalent, especially if you use the same implements on newer tractors that call for Hyguard or universal tractor fluid, so there won't be any contamination of the newer tractors hydraulics.

We use Rotella 15W-40 Diesel oil in the engine of "Big John" our 1955 Model 70 Diesel.

We use 30W non-detergent oil for the hydraulics; <a href="http://youtu.be/hO_UjThnxiM">"Big John" is used only to power the KRONE 260 baler</a>.
