JD Model D stuck engine

A friend has a Model D JD that the engine was stuck. He sprayed WD-40 into the spark plug hole and the plastic straw shot into the cylinder. His dad tried some other spray to unstick the engine and the straw from that shot into the cylinder. Do we need to try to fish out the plastic straws or will the go out through the valves? Little afraid what that might do. Really don't want to pull the head.

It won't go out the valves. Either out the spark hole or pull head. Doesn't sound like snake oil will break it loose either. If it spins over easy then just fish it out and you will be good to go.

The very last thing you need worry about is a stupid plastic straw! I promise you it will have zero effect! It will-at worst- smell awhile as it melts away.

Before you waste time fishing you should see if engine will loosen. If not you will have to tear it down anyway.
What condition do you expect the cylinders to be in? My luck on stuck motors is they are pitted.

I retired from an industry that operates and maintains a wide cross section of engines. There is no better penetrating oil than KROIL PENETRATING OIL. I removed the spark plugs on my JD "D" filled the cylinders with KROIL PENETRATING OIL replaced spark -plugs, then filled the exhaust manifold with KROIL PENETRATING OIL until it runs out the CARBURETOR.I also removed the oil drain plug from the engine so as to allow any KROIL PENETRATING OIL that gets past the ring into the crankcase to drain .There are many different Snake-oil penetrating concoctions but KROIL PENETRATING OIL is at the head of the pack.
KROIL PENETRATING OIL is not cheap!

According to the noted test, the most effective solution is the 50/50 ATF/Acetone mixture. e.g. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30291&showall=1

I am suspect of all these studies on penetrating oils. I tried the 50/50 mix and it failed miserably. It might have worked given enough time, but how much is too much? The one thing that is not mentioned in these studies is time. About anything will work given enough time, but what about having to take something apart and get it back together to beat the rainstorm that is coming? Mike

I've lost the plastic straw using carb cleaner as a fuel primer prior to 1st start of the year. No problems occured.

I'm not sure what studies that you refer to, but the typically cited one that measured a variety of solutions (including the winner acetone & atf - though later discussions appear to indicate that the tested fluid was acetone & PSF [?]) quite clearly mentions time.

Also excellent for cleaning old gun bores. Will remove lead, copper, gunpowder, etc buildup like nothing else. This stuff goes where other oils cannot. Yes it is costly, but it works on a variety of applications.
