855 Tach Acting UP

My 855 tack just recently started acting up. The needle bounces around a lot and sometimes when I shut the tractor down, the needle doesn't return to zero. I suspect the cable needs lubrication but don't know where the other end of the cable attaches or how to get to it. I hate to take off the mower just to take a look under the tractor if there is a better way to find and remove the cable to lubricate it. Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

Thanks very much for the information. Found the other end of the cable, cleaned it up and lubricated well. Put it all back together but needle still vibrates a lot, and appears to be reading higher RPM's than it did before acting up. I suspect something is still wrong that lubricating didn't correct. May have to learn to live with it until it finally quits all together, but would like to fix it before then. Thanks again.
